For many, Afternoon Tea is a rare treat but why not spoil yourself this Sunday and make a delicious Afternoon Tea using some iconic Scottish ingredients to celebrate Scottish Food & Drink Fortnight?

This year, the Fortnight, which runs from 2nd – 17th September, is urging the great Scottish public to change one thing about their eating and drinking habits to allow them to incorporate elements of Scotland’s rich food and drink larder into their day (#onethingfortnight).

Each day of the Fortnight has an inspirational theme to get the great Scottish public – whether they spend their day in a school, office, factory, restaurant, kitchen, living room or garden – to enjoy a Scottish product or two.

The theme for day two (3rd September) is Afternoon Tea.

This year, Scottish Food & Drink Fortnight ties in with VisitScotland’s Year of History, Heritage and Archaeology and when it comes to the history of afternoon tea, there is nothing more iconic than The Glasgow Tearoom. In 1897, Miss Kate Cranston, an eccentric middle-aged Glasgow business woman opened her Buchanan Street tearooms. Her ‘new art’ interior décor, by Charles Rennie Mackintosh, plus her high catering standards, created a legend. For the next 20 years the partnership flourished, inventing the Glasgow tearoom and creating a top visitor attraction.

Well know Edinburgh restaurant owner Carina Contini has shared one of her favourite recipes with Scottish Food & Drink Fortnight. Her toffee strawberry tarts use fresh Scottish strawberries, Scottish strawberry jam and of course Scottish cream. Why not having a go at making them yourself this weekend using Scottish cream from Graham’s The Family Dairy, Yester Farm Dairies or another of Scotland’s wonderful dairy businesses?
